The intimate Davison’s Camp is located in the game-rich Linkwasha Concession of south-east Hwange. Hwange National Park is the largest Park in Zimbabwe, occupying roughly 14 650 square kilometres. It is located in the northwest corner of the country about one hour south of the iconic Victoria Falls.

The secluded, well maintained camp is hidden in the shade of false mopane trees, overlooking an active waterhole in an expansive open plain. The rustic yet comfortable tented camp provides a classic safari experience in an area known for superb game viewing.

Accommodation

Davison’s Camp offers accommodation for a maximum of eighteen guests in nine tented chalets. Each en-suite chalet  opens onto a verandah that overlooks the busy waterhole, affording guests spectacular game sighting from the comfort and privacy of their suites. Large mesh windows give the chalets a light and airy feel, and offer expansive vistas of the surrounding plains. One of the chalets is a family chalet, offering a second en-suite bedroom.

Wildlife

The Linkwasha Concession offers productive year-round game-viewing, including sightings of the Big Five. Other species often encountered include spotted hyena, giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, impala, eland, common waterbuck, and reedbuck. There are also a number of fascinating lesser known species such as; black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox and five different types of mongoose. A number of small nocturnal creatures are often seen, including the lesser bushbaby, porcupine, aardwolf, pangolin, caracal and African wildcat.

The concession is a birder’s paradise, with over 400 species of bird recorded. An ostrich family has even taken up residence in the camp. Raptor sightings include the rare Red-necked Falcon, Dickinson’s kestrel, Martial eagle, five vulture species, and accipiters such as Shikra and Gabar goshawk.

In the Zambezi teak and false mopane woodlands, birding enthusiasts can spot Arnott’s chat, Crimson-breasted shrike, Kalahari Scrub-robin, Scaly-feathered finch, Swallow-tailed bee-eater, Black-cheeked waxbill, Southern Pied babbler and Bradfield’s hornbill. A number of owl species, including Pearl-spotted owlet and African scop-owl seek refuge here too.

The plains areas offer abundant pipits, larks, coursers and wheatears. Migratory species such as Southern Carmine bee-eaters, Black kites, Broad-billed Rollers, and Abdim’s storks are prolific in the summer months.

Children:
Children over the age of six are welcome at Davison’s, but parents need to be aware that the area is frequented by free-roaming game. Children need to be under a parent’s supervision at all times.

Directions

Driving directions from Victoria Falls

 It is important to liaise with the Davison’s Camp Victoria Falls office regarding your time of arrival (14h00 latest) at Ngweshla picnic site to ensure that a transfer vehicle will be there to meet you.

• The driving time from Victoria Falls is min. 4.5 hours, from Bulawayo 4 hours.

• Head South East from Victoria Falls on the main Bulawayo road, after 100km (62 miles) you will pass Hwange town to the west of you, a further +- 70km (44 miles) you will come to cross road with a sign showing ‘Hwange Airport, Hwange Main Camp’.

• Turn right (travelling from Vic Falls) travel west for a further 23km (14 miles) to Hwange Main Camp.

• Here you will sign in and pay park fees. Enter the boom, travel for 280 metres / yards, see a sign on the left, indicating Ngweshla picnic site.

• Follow the main dirt road (do not turn off) for a further 56km (35 miles) through the park.

• You will pass water holes at Makwa, Kennedy 1 and 2 on the way to Ngweshla Pan and Ngweshla picnic site.

• Please park your vehicle here (there is 24 hour security) and prepare for the 1 hour transfer in the Davison’s Camp game drive vehicle, to the main lodge.
