The opulent Grand Roche is a meticulously restored 18th century hotel at the foot of Paarl Rock. As guests enter the gates, they are transported into a tranquil and serene space. The magnificent Cape Dutch homestead epitomises luxurious elegance, with crystal chandeliers, French drapes, marble columns, and burbling fountains.
Grande Roche is the only South African member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Situated amidst orchards and vineyards, the stylish hotel offers guests unparalleled levels of service, comfort, award-winning cuisine, and sumptuously luxurious accommodation.
Five mountain passes wind through orchards and vineyards into Paarl, offering majestic scenery. This is the third oldest town in South Africa, located just 60 km from Cape Town, and is named after the gigantic granite outcrop, the second largest in the world, which shimmers like a pearl as a backdrop to the town. The town was first settled by French Huguenots in 1688.
Accommodation
Grande Roche offers a variety of suites, all with exquisitely luxurious decor, for guests to choose from. The eighteen cape colonial-styled Terrace Suites are grouped in threes and scattered around the estate, with private terraces and glorious views across the vineyards.
The four Studio Suites, once the farm’s coach and carriage houses, have been lovingly restored and beautifully decorated. Each of these suites has an integrated lounge and a private terrace or lawn. There are five Duplex Suites, which were previously the old slave quarters. These spaces have been transformed into luxurious accommodation with a large lounge on the ground floor, and an expansive bedroom with glorious views across the gardens on the upper level.
The Luxury Garden Suite has a king-size bed, a lounge and secluded sun-terrace, and an enclosed patio. The spacious bathroom features a double shower and spa bath.
