With an abundance of general game species as well as extraordinary bird life you can expect to encounter a wide range of species at Indloru River Lodge. Famed for regular leopard sightings, you are almost guaranteed to come across the Big Five during your stay.Indlovu River Lodge is situated near Hoedspruit, in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve (part of an area called the greater Kruger National Park). The richly diverse 9000ha reserve hosts all of the Big Five species of Africa in a free roaming environment.

Indlovu River lodge prides itself as one of only a handful of lodge’s in the whole of Africa which can boast unique, sunken photographic hides. These exceptional hides create the opportunity for photographers to capture close up images, taken from the water level of the waterholes.

Accommodation

Indlovu River lodge offers clients exclusive luxury accommodation. Situated on the banks of the Kuvjenami river, lies 4 separate villas, accommodating a maximum of 20 guests. The villas are hidden under towering Jackalberry trees, with the magnificent northern escarpment of the Drakensberg mountains as a backdrop. Each serviced villa has its own pool and boma, guaranteeing exclusivity and a private sense of being at home. Meals are privately served around the campfire in each villa’s boma, which is ideal for families or small groups of like-minded people, who prefer their privacy.

Wildlife

Game is plentiful on the reserve including elephant, white rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, spotted and brown hyena, giraffe, zebra, blue wildebeest, kudu, bushbuck, steenbok, common duiker, impala, waterbuck, black-backed and side-striped jackal, honey badger, pangolin, baboon, vervet monkey, various types of mongoose, warthog, hippo, crocodile, otter, water monitor, frogs, terrapins and tortoises, various types of snakes, lizards, skinks and geckos.

Directions

Directions from Johannesburg and Pretoria:

Take the N12 to Witbank (E Mahlaleni) (148km,) or from Pretoria take the N4 to Witbank (E Mahlaleni) (111km).

Continue along the N4 from Witbank (E Mahlelani) to Belfast (87km) and take the left hand turn off to Belfast along the R33. From Belfast drive through Dullstroom (R540) to Lydenburg (Mashishing).

From Lydenburg (Mashishing) take the R36 through Ohrigstad to the Strydom Tunnel. Approximately 15 km after the tunnel, take the left hand turn off to Tzaneen along the R36. Stay on this road for 23km. Approximately 150 m after you have passed Shiduli Lodge and crossed the Kuvjename River turn right to the entrance gate for Indlovu River Lodge (Karongwe Private Game Reserve). To enter, press the white button and state your name and destination. The gate will be opened for you, please wait for it to close behind you. Follow the lodge signage for 3.2 km.
