Knysna Houseboats are luxurious, self-drive boats located on the Knysna Lagoon, in the popular holiday town of Knysna. This seaside destination is found in the heart of the picturesque Garden Route, along the Southern Coast of South Africa.

A prominent Knysna feature, the tidal lagoon is an estuary that flows out through the iconic Knysna Heads to the Indian Ocean.  Houseboats offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a self-drive (boating) stay on the waters of the lagoon, take in the views of the famous Knysna Heads and surrounding mountains, target some prized catches of Mussel crackers, ‘Leervis’ (Garrick) and Spotted Grunter, and enjoy a braai on the deck whilst listening to the water lap against the hull of the boat.

Guests get to take charge of their holiday and enjoy the experience of chartering their own boat. The instructions on navigating the Houseboat, safety precautions and permits are all included in the hire of a Knysna Houseboat, leaving guests assured that their only worries need to be where to choose to weigh anchor for the night.

Accommodation

The Knysna Houseboats accommodate four adults or a family of five, and have all the amenities that one would expect to enjoy at a more traditional choice of accommodation. This includes two double beds – one converted in the dining room; a bench, which seat doubles as a single bed; a fully equipped kitchen with electric appliances; bathroom, with hot shower and chemical toilet; and bedding.

All safety equipment, such as life jackets, first aid kit and fire extinguisher, as well as a Captains book is included.

Directions

• BY ROAD:

From George Airport

• On exiting George Airport turn right towards the N2 and at the N2 take the left slipway to Knysna.

• Drive along the N2, passing through Wilderness and Sedgefield until you reach the town of Knysna.

• After entering Knysna turn right at the 3rd set of traffic lights into Waterfront Drive.

• Proceed along Waterfront Drive (railway line on your right), and pass through a set of traffic lights, passing the Waterfront on your right.

• Turn right at the next set of traffic lights into Long Street (note ‘Builders Trade’ on your left and Tait Marine across the road on the right hand corner).

• Proceed over the railway line and across the causeway and bridge onto THESEN ISLANDS.

• Once on Thesen Islands continue until the roundabout at the end of the road, here take the first exit left.

• Follow the road and Knysna Houseboats signs until you reach the stop street and cross over straight ahead.

• Continue on the road around the Playground and you will find Knysna Houseboats on your right hand side where we look forward to welcoming you.

Distance 71,4km, approximately 50 minute drive.

From Port Elizabeth

• Take the N2 towards Knysna.

• After entering Knysna turn left at the second sets of traffic lights into Waterfront Drive.

• Proceed along Waterfront Drive and turn left at the first set of traffic lights into Long Street (note ‘Builders Trade’ on your right and Tait Marine across the road on the left hand corner).

• Proceed over the railway line and across the causeway and bridge onto THESEN ISLANDS.

• Once on Thesen Islands continue until the roundabout at the end of the road, here take the first exit left.

• Follow the road and Knysna Houseboats signs until you reach the stop street and cross over straight ahead.

• Continue on the road around the Playground and you will find Knysna Houseboats on your right hand side where we look forward to welcoming you.
