Serengeti National Park is a World Heritage Site, and was proclaimed a World Wide Wonder. The Park is rich in game throughout the year and provides the stage for the world’s largest animal migration, when up to two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle make their way north into Kenya’s Masai Mara.

The seemingly unending plains of the Southern Serengeti are inhabited by enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra, and it is in this remote section of the park that the only permanent camp in the southern part of the Serengeti is found – the exclusive Kusini. The eco-conscious lodge is built on a rocky outcrop offering spectacular 360° views of the grassy plains.

The secluded unobtrusive lodge offers impeccable personalised service and luxurious comfort in a remote location, giving guests the honour of truly experiencing the expansiveness and adventure of a great African safari.

Wildlife

Kusini lies on the path of the Great Migration, and from December to March, masses of wildebeest congregate here to calve. Predators abound at this time – lion, leopard and cheetah eagerly await tender, easy pickings.

The area around Kusini is noted for its lion and cheetah populations and excellent leopard sightings. Guests frequently have sightings of all of the Big Five during their stay. There are high densities of both large and small predators, and large herds of herbivores.

Around 500 bird species have been recorded in the Serengeti. The wide range of habitats allows for many different birds, including Ground hornbill, kori bustard, lilac-breasted roller, little bee-eater, woodland kingfisher, usambiro barbet, silverbird, white-headed buffalo weaver. Black crake, saddle-billed stork and goliath heron are often seen closer to water. Raptor sightings include bateleur, martial eagle, tawny eagle, African fish eagle, secretary bird, Rüppel’s griffon and dark chanting goshawk.
