Surrounded by impressive rocky outcrops, on the site of an abandoned Venda settlement, lies our Mashovhela Lodge which gets its name from the sacred Mashovhela rock pool, “Place where the drums beat”.
Be pampered by friendly staff that offer excellent, attentive and concerning service.
Accommodation and facilities of the lodge are all built to minimize the ecological footprint and run on a sustainable energy program.
Mashovhela Lodge offers comfortable, eco-friendly accommodation in the Louis Trichardt and the Soutpansberg Mountains of South Africa.
Accommodation
There are 10 en-suite chalets, that have a unique ethnic feel, whilst offering complete comfort and privacy. Children are accommodated in family friendly units.
For the more adventurous a night spent in the unique hammock camp where, breath-taking views of the southern hemisphere night sky is the main attraction. A night in the hammock camp can optionally be combined with a bush dinner and/or bush breakfast.
En-suite safari tents are also available for a more rustic experience in the bush. Safari tents can sleep up to 4 people, making them ideal for families as well.
Wildlife
Morning Sun Nature reserve is home to a wide diversity of wildlife from the massive eland to the small elephant shrew all playing a vital role in this unique ecosystem.
The lesser known zebra, namely the Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra roam the hills and Dassies sun bath on the cliffs minding the attention of the Black Eagles soaring above.
As the sun begins to set the more secretive nocturnal animals, such as Leopard, Brown Hyena as well as Bush Pig, Porcupine, Aardvark and Pangolin, become more active and the cute bush babies can be seen and heard foraging in the trees.

A multi-purpose venue set in un-spoilt natural surroundings makes it the ideal facility for any function, corporate or personal. Flexibility in the bush is the key to successful conferencing, team building, inspiring and revitalizing your staff.

Directions:
Drive North on the N1 (Toll road) towards Polokwane (formerly Pietersburg)
Just before Polokwane (about 10km) lookout for the road sign indicating N1 Louis Trichardt (as the sign boards keep changing here also look out for Mussina, Makhado, Tzaneen and Giyani) and take the off ramp.
As you progress around Polokwane, keep following the signs to Louis Trichardt, Makhado or Musina.
Passing Polokwane you will be on the N1 to Louis Trichardt and a sign board indicates Louis Trichardt 102 Km
Passing the Polokwane Airport follow directions from there going north on the N1 towards Louis Trichardt,
In Makhado/Louis Trichardt drive straight, passing two 4Way stops.
Continue north passing a traffic circle. Set your odometer to 0 to measure 16km. Pass Ingwe Ranch (from here you have 2 km to go)
Pass the 120kmh speed sign and indicate to turn LEFT.
On the N1, at the sign for Mashovhela Lodge (Morning Sun Nature Reserve) turn left and enter our gate. Follow the dirt road and signs drive straight for 4 km into the mountain valley, until you end up at the lodge.
Alternative route through Polokwane/Pietersburg:
Drive North on the N1 (Toll Road) until you enter Polokwane/Pietersburg
At the first BIG circle turn left. Signposted “preferred route to Zimbabwe/Makhado” (Nelson Mandela Drive)
Drive 3.5 km passed the industrial area; at the 7th set of traffic lights turn RIGHT. Signposted as “N1 recommended route & airport” (Vermikuliet Drive)
Drive 4 km to the T-junction. Turn left onto the N1 north
Pass the airport and follow the signs to Makhado/Louis-Trichardt
You will now drive north for about 120 km (N1 Toll Road towards Makhado/Louis-Trichardt)
In Makhado/Louis-Trichardt drive straight, through two, 4 Way stops.
