Overview
The luxurious Monwana Game Lodge is situated within the Thornybush Game Reserve, on the banks of the Monwana River. The reserve is spread across 11 500 hectares of unspoiled savannah and borders the Kruger National Park.
The intimate lodge can be booked for exclusive use, and is the ideal getaway for couples, families, small groups, and honeymooners. Personalised service, elegant accommodation, gourmet meals, and Big Five game-viewing combine to ensure guests have a memorable safari.

Accommodation
Monwana Lodge accommodates a maximum of twelve guests in four spacious suites, all named after South African tribes. The African-inspired décor and furnishings create a sumptuous safari atmosphere.
The Bushman and Zulu are family suites, with two inter-leading en-suite bedrooms. The Ndebele accommodates two people in a double suite with two bathrooms. The Shangaan is a romantic honeymoon suite complete with king-size bed and open plan bathroom, with a huge sunken bath from which to enjoy magnificent views.
All suites have expansive secluded timber decks, with glorious views over the waterhole or river.
Wildlife
Thornybush is a fully fenced private game reserve teeming with wildlife. The Big Five live here, as well as a multitude of mammals including; spotted hyena, cheetah and hippo. Thornybush guests are treated to frequent sightings of the shy and secretive black rhino. Night drives often reveal the elusive genet, civet, bush baby, porcupine and caracal, with the possibility of observing predators hunting and stalking their prey.
Monwana is an accredited Bird Life South Africa – “Birder Friendly” establishment, and is home to around 300 bird species. This includes the renowned ‘Big Six’, namely Ground hornbill, Martial eagle, Saddle-billed stork, Pel’s fishing owl, Kori bustard and Lappet faced vulture.
Migratory birds are present from November to April. Notable birds in the area include the Groundscraper thrush, Malachite kingfisher, Martial eagle, Fork-tailed drongo, Namaqua dove, Green pigeon, Black-crowned night heron, Blacksmith plover, and Lesser spotted eagle.

Directions
Johannesburg – Thornybush Game Reserve (Monwana Game Park)
Approximately 550km (+/-) Half a day by road.
* N4 east to Belfast.
* R540 to Lydenburg (via Dullstroom).
* R36 to Orighstad, and J.G. Strijdom Tunnel.
* Proceed through J.G. Strijdom Tunnel towards Hoedspruit.
* R527 to and through Hoedspruit and turn right at the 4th 4-way stop (onto R40)
* R40, after 6km turn left towards and past Eastgate Airport.
* After 17km turn right onto Guernsey Road (gravel road starts).
* After 10km turn left into the Thornybush Game Reserve main gate.
* Report as Guests of Monwana Lodge to the Gate Guard.
* Follow the signs to Thornybush Game Reserves main lodge.
