Wildlife

The diverse landscape of the reserve incorporates five pans on the Plains, which are excellent spots for birds and antelope, particularly in the evening and early morning. The Marico River that flows through the reserve is flanked by dense bush thickets and tall riverine vegetation including leadwood and marula.

The list of mammal species is almost endless, with lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, and endangered wild dog being some of the most popular. Areas of dry north-western vegetation make excellent habitat for some interesting bird species including the yellow-throated sandgrouse, kori bustard and Temmick’s courser.
